Bruce Springsteen Picks Second 1984 New Jersey Show For Vault Release

The latest release in Bruce Springsteen‘s monthly vault releases is Brendan Byrne Arena: East Rutherford, NJ – August 20, 1984. The show marked the 10th night of the hometown stand — and features the second show from the Meadowlands run to see release. It joins the first night of the residency, August 5th, 1984, which was issued as part of the ongoing series back in 2015.

The highlight of the August 20th show is the addition of the Miami Horns on the encores including the two-song guest spot by “Little Steven” Van Zandt who returned to perform “Two Hearts” and a legendary cover of Dobie Gray‘s “Drift Away” with “The Boss” and the band.

  • Back in 1984 Bruce Springsteen reflected on who he was and the community he comes from and connects with: [“I wanted to play, I wanted to perform, I wanted to travel. I wanted to feel as free as I could. I guess I can consider myself certainly lucky that when I was a kid I found something I liked to do. Something that gave me some sense of personal satisfaction. I mean, I see so many people, so many friends of mine — they still don’t know. They don’t know exactly what they want to do. Y’never in the boat by yourself, ‘y’know? There’s a lot of other people that just go about their lives in different ways. And they don’t get interviewed; they don’t get a big fuss made over ’em. But I don’t think that what I do is. . . it’s just nosier, y’know?”] SOUNDCUE (:34 OC: . . . just nosier, y’know)
  • Bruce Springsteen performs tonight (March 6th) in New York City at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
