Elvis Costello & The Imposters kick off a four-night New York run tonight in Brooklyn, marking the group’s only announced North American shows for this year. Costello will play tonight (March 7th) at Brooklyn’s Brooklyn Steel, followed by with three back-to-back shows at Port Chester’s Capitol Theatre. The Brooklyn Steel show marks Costello’s first gig at the venue. Costello & Imposters will be on tour in June and July in Europe.
Although Costello has kept busy on the road and with the publication of his memoir Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink, he hasn’t released a new set of songs since his 2013 collaboration with the Roots, the critically- acclaimed, Wise Up Ghost.
- Elvis Costello told us that without a doubt his best songs — both in the past and present — still seem to come out of thin air: [“I think you have to accept the spontaneous element in it that you can’t really provide for — you can’t really predict. If you knew when it was going to come up on you, you’d do it all day long. You can church out the hits. But that isn’t the way it works. You don’t know when you’ll be moved to write a song. I mean you can force yourself to write music, but I don’t know that it would be the most thrilling stuff.”] SOUNDCUE (:21 OC: . . . most thrilling stuff)
