Kevin Cronin Understands Why The Rock Hall Passes REO Speedwagon Over

Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon admits that he has little or no hope that the band will ever join its heroes in Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Despite the band failing to make the shortlist going on 21 years now, Cronin is happy with his lot — and together with REO will once again barnstorm across the U.S. this spring with Styx and former Eagles guitarist Don Felder.

Cronin, who’s kept REO together through thick and thin — and still sells out year after year for their legion of fans — told us that not getting into the Rock Hall is okay with him: [“I understand what the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame thought process is. And I think in our case, at least; I mean, I think of myself as an artist and an entertainer. I mean, did I re-invent the wheel with REO Speedwagon? Probably not. I think I picked up influences from the Beatles and from a lot of bands that were around me, but I don’t know if in good conscience I could say I’m an innovator, and ‘did I create something brand new,’ y’know? And I think the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is looking for those types of seminal, pivotal bands.”] SOUNDCUE (:28 OC: . . . seminal pivotal bands)
