Why these fifth-graders got sick from eating Jell-O.

TX Mom Brings Jell-O Shots To 5th Grade Classroom Birthday Party

Tayler, Texas mom Teresa Isabel Bernal, 33, is facing charges of felony child injury after allegedly bringing vodka-spiked Jell-O shots to a fifth-grade Jones Elementary holiday party.

Several kids got sick after eating the Jell-O shots, with 15 seeing the school nurse.  One puked and couldn’t stand up after eating six of them.  Another puked after school, and one student passed out once they got home.

A school resource officer was called, and Bernthal was arrested.  She told cops that she bought the Jell-O shots from a business she found on Facebook.  She insisted that she had no idea they were spiked with booze and would never intentionally serve alcohol to minors. However, the shots’ packaging clearly stated that they were laced with Smirnoff, according to investigators.

With teachers thinking it was odd that a parent would bring Jell-O shots to a party, they never thought they would be spiked.

An arrest affidavit stated, “In my opinion, there is no way Bernal could have missed the fact that the Jell-O shots she purchased and brought to her daughter’s fifth-grade Christmas party contained drinking alcohol.”

Bernthal was arrested on April 21st and banned from the school’s campus.
