Should You Leave The Air Conditioner On or Off When You Leave Home?

There’s an age-old question about air conditioners: Should you leave them on or turn them off when you leave the house? 

Some homeowners believe that turning off the AC when they’re away is the most energy-efficient and cost-saving method.

Others argue that leaving the AC running continuously is better to prevent the system from straining to cool the house rapidly after it has warmed up during the day.

One HVAC expert said, “It’s a myth that it takes more energy to cool a house down than to keep it cool.” 

The expert recommends setting the thermostat to a higher temperature when away to save energy without causing the system to work harder. He said, “It’s more efficient to maintain a constant temperature.” 

The HVAC pro also emphasized the importance of regular maintenance to keep the system running smoothly.
