One in Four People Admit Stealing From Self-Checkout
One in four Americans admitted to having stolen an item while using self-checkout.

According to a new survey, 27% of Americans who’ve used self-checkout admit to intentionally taking an item without scanning it. The amount is up from 15% in 2023.
Millennials (41%) and Gen Z adults (37%) were the most likely to steal at self-checkout, while only 2% of Baby Boomers did.
The research said 47% of people who took something said the current financial climate was a reason for stealing, while 46% mentioned higher prices, and 39% felt prices were unfair.
Those with household incomes of $100,000 or more were the most likely to steal.
