No Phone? Pay Extra.

Restaurant Now Charging Extra for Printed Menus

A restaurant overseas is testing a new policy that charges customers extra if they want a printed menu instead of scanning a QR code.

Management says the change helps reduce printing costs and encourages digital ordering. But some diners say it adds one more unnecessary step between them and their meal.

For customers without smartphones — or anyone whose phone battery is already running low — it can turn ordering lunch into a tech support situation.

And while QR-code menus became common during the pandemic, not everyone is ready to give up the paper version just yet.

Because sometimes when you sit down at a table, you don’t want Wi-Fi… you just want the soup of the day.
