The Place with the Most Mosquitoes Is Not Your Backyard (unless you live in L.A.)

Everyone’s getting excited about spending warm evenings outside, until we remember mosquitoes. And if you think your backyard is the “mosquito capital of the world”, you’d be wrong. Orkin just posted its list of the top cities for mosquitoes, and Los Angeles is #1 for the SIXTH year in a row (and they didn’t even count the bloodsuckers in the entertainment business . . . HEY-HO) The rest of the Top 5 are:
Chicago, New York City, Detroit, and Atlanta. How about OHIO cities? Cleveland came in as Ohio’s most mosquitoey city ranked #9 nationally, Columbus is #20, while Cincinnati is ranked 30th.  To help reduce mosquito activity, Orkin recommends using the acronym BITE to remember key prevention steps: Block access to skin by wearing long sleeves and pants, as well as CDC-recommended repellents. Install tight-fitting screens on windows and doors. Trim shrubs, grass and other vegetation to reduce mosquito resting areas. Eliminate standing water, which is a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
