Electricity Costs Expected To Hit Record Highs This Summer

Cooling costs are projected to reach record highs this summer, with Americans expected to spend an average of nearly $800 on electricity between June and September, up 10.5% from last year.

Electricity prices are rising due to increasing energy demand and investments in updating the nation’s power grid, resulting in a 23% increase in the national average monthly electric bill from 2019 to 2024.

Arizona residents are expected to face the highest electricity costs this summer, with households projected to spend $1,060, followed by Connecticut at $944, while Washington and North Dakota are expected to have the lowest power bills at $488.

Americans are grappling with higher utility costs amid financial struggles, with roughly half feeling worse off financially than a year ago, and one in six U.S. households falling behind on utility bills.
