Jail Saves Money By Growing Its Own Vegetables

(From the Wood County Sheriff’s Office)

Our jail garden looks amazing and is starting to take off!

Thanks to Deputy Knapp, she loves to improve the garden each year.

We save thousands of $$ each summer by growing our own vegetables to use in our jail kitchen for inmate meals, and all the starter plants are donated locally by Bonnie Plant Farm with mulch donated by the county landfill.

This year, Deputy Knapp and her inmate workers planted tomatoes, squash, zucchini, jalapenos, sweet potatoes, onions, cucumber, cilantro, peppers, and started a pumpkin patch from seeds.

We couldn’t make any of this happen each year without Deputy Knapp and her workers who maintain the garden.
