Scammers Are Impersonating Sheriff’s Office Personnel

(From the Wood County Sheriff’s Office)

We’ve received reports of phone scams where callers are impersonating the Wood County Sheriff’s Office – and even making it look like they’re calling from our actual phone number.

Here’s what we’re seeing:

. Caller ID shows ‘Wood County Sheriff’s Office’

. Caller claims to be a deputy

. You’re told you have a warrant, missed court/jury duty, or are tied to a criminal investigation

  • They demand banking info, payment, or personal details immediately

. They become aggressive or threatening if you question them

These scams are happening nationwide and often involve spoofed phone numbers and even real officer names to make them seem legitimate.

KNOW THIS:

. We will NEVER call you demanding money or banking information

. We will NEVER ask for payment to avoid arrest

. If you have a warrant, you won’t resolve it with a phone payment

BOTTOM LINE: If someone calls you claiming to be law enforcement and pressures you for money or personal info … it’s a scam. Stay alert. Share this post. Help protect others.
