Ohio EPA Reviewing Data Center Water Discharge Permitting Process

(ONN) – A controversial proposed blanket permitting process for data center water discharge is being reviewed by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.

The debate over data centers in Ohio continues.

The centers house large servers to support data in the cloud, AI and more.

Supporters say they could bring jobs, tax revenue and investment, but critics are worried about impacts to the environment, property values and energy use.

Now, the Ohio EPA is reviewing more than 7,000 public comments submitted over the past eight months.

The environmental group proposed a new statewide permit for water discharge from those data centers.

(WFIN) – In April, Findlay City Council approved an ordinance imposing a 12-month moratorium on data centers within city limits.
