The Cicadas Are Already Creating Havoc . . .
Trillions of cicadas are set to hatch in the eastern U.S. over the next several weeks, from Georgia to Wisconsin. For the most part, cicadas will be emerging soon here in Ohio. Typically they start to emerge in mid-May when the soil warms up, and stay through late June. Some parts of the country will see the most emerging in over 200 years, due to two separate broods emerging around the same time. They’re already starting to cause confusing, prompting some people making 9-1-1 calls. (???) A sheriff’s office in South Carolina asked people on Facebook this week to stop filing noise complaints. They said several people have called to report a siren, or some sort of a weird roaring sound that was really loud. The sheriff wanted everyone to know it’s just cicadas, and filing a report won’t do any good. Quote, “Unfortunately, it is the sounds of nature.”
