The Role Jeff Daniels Worried About

The movie and TV world is full of people who took a role, and that role either stereotyped them for their whole career, or worse . . . ENDED their career! Jeff Daniels was told by his agents NOT to do Dumb & Dumber. But Jeff wanted to work with Jim Carrey, and change things up with a comedy (after doing two pretty intense movies like Terms of Endearment and Speed). Going into filming, he knew he had to be willing to go all in . . . including with the infamous scene where he has explosive diarrhea on a BROKEN toilet. Jeff says doing that scene made him nervous because he thought it could potentially END his career. He says, “Jim, who is fearless, told me, ‘It’s going to be great. You’ve just got to go all the way with it.’” He adds, “That was a couple hours of porcelain gymnastics. And that close-up on my red face. I had been doing it so long I almost passed out. That scene will probably outlive us. It will be funny 40 years from now.” In a previous interview Daniels mentioned that even Clint Eastwood was a fan of the scene. “Dumb & Dumber” will be turning 30 this December (feel old yet?).
