On Thursday night, Microsoft systems around the world experienced the dreaded “blue screen of death” after cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike sent out a flawed update. 

The computer outage affected airlines, banks, hotels, hospitals, online orders, and more. 

Overall, the global tech fiasco impacted an estimated 8.5 million Microsoft users. Although the number is less than one percent of Windows machines, the damage was extensive.  

Airline travel was crushed over the weekend. On Saturday, nearly 1,500 flights in the United States were canceled as systems were being attended to.
