The largest water utility in the US, American Water, was forced to temporarily pause customer billing due to a cyberattack on Monday.

A “cybersecurity incident” caused the company, which serves 14 million Americans in 14 states, had to temporarily deactivate and disconnect its portal systems.

It’s not believed that the attack affected American Water’s water or wastewater facilities. The water remains safe.
