Ex-Primus Drummer Tim Alexander Reveals Why He Recently Quit The Band

Last week, Primus publicly announced the shocking departure of their longtime drummer, Tim Alexander. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Alexander explained what went into his decision to leave the alt-rock band that he has played with for the past 35 years. “A lot of times, you do something you love for a long time, and sometimes the passion turns into a job, and sometimes that job doesn’t feel like it’s your being anymore,” Alexander says. The 59-year-old drummer suffered a series of heart attacks back in 2014 and 2016, but he is feeling healthier these days and is “the happiest I think I’ve ever been,” even though drumming for over three decades has taken a toll on his body and his mind. “Over time, I started realizing that it was affecting my physical life, it was affecting my mental life, and it was affecting my family life, and my heart just wasn’t in it,” Alexander admits.
