A new study from Johns Hopkins University, the Mayo Clinic and New York University finds that cases of dementia could double in the next thirty years.
The risk for developing dementia after 55 is 42%, more than double previous study results.
Dementia cases are projected to double from 500,000 cases in 2020 to one million by 2060.
Black Americans and women could see even higher spikes in dementia cases over the next 30 years.
Dementia includes a group of diseases like Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s, Lewy body, frontotemporal and vascular dementia.
