The first US resident documented with a severe case of bird flu has died.
First US Bird Flu Death Reported
The US has recorded its first death from the bird flu; a southwest Louisiana resident who was hospitalized last month with the first known severe case in the country.
The Louisiana Department of Health couldn’t share much due to patient privacy, but said the patient was 65 and did have underlying medical conditions.
More than 65 people have caught the bird flu so far, mainly from close contact to poultry and cattle.
The World Health Organization has documented 950 total bird flu cases in humans, with nearly 50% of those patients dying.
