The latest text scam involves tolls has spread nationwide.
Unpaid Toll Texts A Part of Nationwide Scam
Federal and state authorities are warning of a nationwide text scam demanding payment for unpaid tolls.
The FTC explained, “Whether you’ve driven through a toll recently or not, you might’ve gotten a text saying you owe money for unpaid tolls. It’s probably a scam. Scammers are pretending to be tolling agencies from coast to coast and sending texts demanding money.”
Scammers are coming for your money, adding a prompt asking you if you want to go to a website to meet their payment demands. If you click the link, your personal info can get stolen.
Tolling companies never send texts or emails asking for personal info. The FTC reminds you to never reply to texts from unknown numbers, never click their links and hit “delete and report” on your phone.
