Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has finalized a rule to ban medical debt from appearing on credit reports.

15 million Americans will have $49 billion in medical debt removed from their reports, boosting credit scores by around 20 points.

With improved credit scores, this could help many Americans apply for car or home loans.

The rule is set to take place in March but could be challenged in the courts.
