Will TikTok be gone on Sunday?

Supreme Court Upholds TikTok Ban in United States

On Friday, the Supreme Court upheld the U.S. ban on TikTok.

The law passed last April required Chinese-owned ByteDance to sell the social media site to a U.S. owner by January 19th or face a ban.

ByteDance has threatened to shut down TikTok on Sunday.

In their unanimous ruling on the appeal, the Supreme Court said “There is no doubt that, for more than 170 million Americans, TikTok offers a distinctive and expansive outlet for expression, means of engagement, and source of community, but Congress has determined that divestiture is necessary to address its well-supported national security concerns regarding TikTok’s data collection practices and relationship with a foreign adversary.”

The Biden Administration will not enforce the ban before the transition of the White House to the Trump presidency. Trump wants “the opportunity to pursue a political resolution of the questions at issue in the case.”
