Spooky Season: America’s Biggest Fears . . . Mapped by State

Even if you don’t do anything to celebrate Halloween, you’d probably admit, this can be a spooky time of the year. So what creeps us out? In a new survey of 3,000 Americans, 97% of us admit to being spooked by something. In 17 states (including Ohio) , the number one fear is DEATH. In eight states, the top fear is HEIGHTS. The #3 fear is SNAKES, #4 fear is a tie between PUBLIC SPEAKING and ENCLOSED SPACES, and the #6 fear is a tie between FAILURE and SPIDERS. Interestingly, GHOSTS AND SPIRITS were also an option, but they were only number one in one state: Montana.
