Quebec’s famous groundhog, “Fred la Marmotte“, died the night before Groundhog Day, and there wasn’t time to find a replacement. So a child and a stuffed animal stood in for him, and predicted six more weeks of winter. For the record, a few more results from a few other Canadian animal weather prognosticators . . .
“Lucy the Lobster” in Nova Scotia: 6 more weeks of winter. “Manitoba Merv” in, well, Manitoba, Canada: 6 more weeks of winter. And “Balzac Billy” in Alberta, Canada: (who’s always just a person in a groundhog costume), an early spring.
