World’s First Bungee Jumper Has Died . . . Peacefully in His Bed at 78
The world’s first bungee jumper just passed away peacefully in his bed at age 78. His name was David Kirke. He and his friends started a group at Oxford in the ’70s called the “Dangerous Sports Club.” Using elastic ropes used to stop planes on aircraft carriers, he jumped from a 250-foot bridge in 1979 wearing a tuxedo, and holding a bottle of champagne. He found out later, that all 4 members of the “Dangerous Sports Club” were all supposed to jump at the same time, but the others waited to see if he made it, because they hadn’t even tested the ropes! One more note, the local cops found out what they were planning, and showed up to stop them, but David and his friends were running late after drinking too much the night before, so the cops were gone when they got there.
