Amazon CEO Andrew Jassey said Monday that after four years of working from home, all corporate employees must return to the office five days a week.

In a memo to workers, Jassey wrote, “We’ve decided that we’re going to return to being in the office the way we were before the onset of COVID. When we look back over the last five years, we continue to believe that the advantages of being together in the office are significant.”

Jassey did add that there is leniency to the rule, such as a sick child, house emergency, business travel or the need to code in a more “isolated environment.”

Labor experts say that requiring employees to return to the office is their way of reducing headcount, as some will quit or get fired before returning to a job they can do completely from home.

Many employees told ‘The New York Times’ they’re less than thrilled about the office mandate.
