There were long lines at Chicago-area electric vehicle charging stations earlier this week as owners say the frigid temps made it hard for their cars to keep a charge.

Several EVs were stranded along the one Tesla station, with a driver telling CBS “I’ve been here for over five hours at this point and I still have not gotten to charge my car. A charge that should take 45 minutes is taking two hours.”

Tow truck drivers were even called in to move the cars as Chicago’s temp sat at zero degrees for nearly three days.

Tesla recommends keeping the vehicle plugged in and maintaining a charge of at least 20%.
