Sammy Hagar Learns He Isn’t A Hagar

Sammy Hagar called it a “trip” to learn that his real last name isn’t Hagar, but Belcher.

While on PBS’ ‘Finding Your Roots’, host Henry Louis Gates told the singer, “Genetically, you are not a Hagar. You are not a Hagar… you are a Belcher. Your Y DNA matches 27 men with the surname Belcher. There is no doubt. You are Sammy Belcher.”

Hagar’s cool with the news, though, later saying, “This is actually pretty cool because at least I know a little bit about my past. There’s nothing in a name… you are who you are. And maybe what you call yourself is even more important than what you’re really named. I didn’t know anything about my ancestry, and now I do. If there are any Belchers out there who are really relatives, well hey! Welcome! Hi! See you on tour!”
