The latest FBI report shows that violent crime dropped by more than 15% during 2024’s first three months, compared to that same time last year.

Murders fell by more than 26% in the same time period, as did reports of rape by 27%.

Robberies also fell by nearly 18%.

Attorney General Merrick Garland said the new data “makes clear that last year’s historic decline in violent crime is continuing. This continued historic decline in homicides does not represent abstract statistics. It represents people whose lives were saved — people who are still here to see their children grow up, to work toward fulfilling their dreams, and to contribute to their communities.”
