The weather’s getting warmer. Which drinks are best to keep you hydrated?
June 23rd is National Hydration Day! The dieticians and health experts at ‘Eat This’ say these are the top five drinks to keep you hydrated during summer.
Water – “Water is the best way to keep yourself hydrated during a sweaty hot day and it’s best for the body and it’s what the body craves”, says Lisa Young, registered dietician.
Water with Electrolytes – Lisa Burak, another registered dietician says “A beverage with electrolytes will help to keep you hydrated or help to replenish you more effectively than just plain water.” She recommends the brand Smart Water.
Fruit Smoothie – Harvard Health says a smoothie with bananas and berries is rich in potassium, which balances fluid levels in cells.
Coconut Water – It’s another great hydrating drink filled with potassium.
Gatorade – Burak says “If you need that glucose boost and electrolytes, it has the least sugar and calories of many of the drinks I see on the market.”
