After falling due to COVID, drug overdoses and heart disease, US life expectancy jumped last year, with around 189,000 fewer deaths in 2023 than the year before.

2024 suggests that US life expectancy will continue to grow, as there have so far been 13,000 fewer deaths.

At its peak in 2014, US life expectancy reached nearly 79 years old. It fell at its lowest during the pandemic in 2021 to 76 1/2 years.
