The government will now restart the process of forgiving loans for those enrolled in two income-driven repayment programs — Income-Contingent Repayment and Pay As You Earn – before they expire in on July 1st, 2028.

Borrowers who’ve made payments for 25 years can now have their balances forgiven under the income-based repayment plan.

Around 2.5 million Americans now qualify for forgiveness.
