BBB Warns of Powerball Text Scam
The BBB warns of a new scam where crooks are texting random phone numbers claiming that they want to share the Powerball lottery money they’ve “won”.
The messag
e contains a code that the scammers want you to send to someone else to “collect the winnings”.
The BBB says, “You need to be very careful about text messages. When someone randomly contacts you, they’re just pulling your number; they don’t actually have your name. They’re gonna get you to reveal information about yourself so they can steal your identity or money or both.”
The Bureau adds that you should never reply to a suspicious text or click its links. Also, never share your personal info!
