Sheriff’s Office Warns Of Scam

(From the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office)

The Wyandot County Sheriff Office is aware of a scam currently circulating in our area. In this scam, an individual will call via phone and claim to be a “Sergeant Johnson” from the Wyandot County Sheriff Office.

The individual will then inform the contacted person they failed to provide a DNA sample to our agency. The scammer uses this false claim to intimidate the contacted person into providing payment to them. If questioned, the scammer will threaten to issue a warrant.

The Wyandot County Sheriff Office does not have a Sergeant Johnson who works for our agency. Our department would also like to remind the public that we will never contact anyone and directly attempt to secure payment from you. Additionally, we do not contact individuals and notify them of warrants via phone.

If you receive any suspicious calls similar to this, it is likely a scam. Please terminate the call immediately and contact the Wyandot County Sheriff Office directly to verify if someone from our department is attempting to contact you.
