Police Lieutenant Saluted For 30 Years Of Dedicated Service

(From Tiffin Police Chief David Pauly)

Please join me in congratulating Lt. Mark Marquis on 30 years of dedicated service to the Tiffin community and the Tiffin Police Department. And to be clear, Lt. Marquis is not retiring (at least I hope not yet). At the Tiffin Police Department, we believe it is important to recognize significant milestones and honor the men and women whose commitment, professionalism, and leadership have helped shape this department over the years.

After graduating from Ohio University, Mark was appointed as a Tiffin Police Officer on May 1, 1996. Remarkably, just six days into his career, then Officer Marquis received a department commendation for his investigative work in helping dismantle a theft ring impacting communities throughout Northwest Ohio, including Tiffin. That early recognition was just the beginning of what would become an extraordinary career defined by professionalism, initiative, and an unwavering commitment to public service.

Over the past three decades, Lt. Marquis has built a reputation as an exceptional police officer, highly skilled investigator, respected supervisor, and trusted leader. His career has been marked by numerous department commendations and awards, multiple community service recognitions, the Mayor’s Award for his heroic actions in entering a burning home to rescue a wheelchair-dependent resident and save her life, and the Meritorious Service Award for both his investigative excellence and his outstanding leadership of the department’s Criminal Division.

Mark also dedicated 17 years to the department’s Special Response Team, serving for many of those years as Team Commander before stepping down in 2015. His steady leadership, tactical expertise, and calm decision-making under pressure helped shape the team and mentor countless officers.

He was promoted to Sergeant in January 2004, and then to Lieutenant in October 2012, where he assumed command responsibilities over the Criminal Division. In that role, Lt. Marquis has consistently demonstrated not only exceptional investigative ability, but also a deep commitment to developing personnel, strengthening operations, and always putting the needs of this department and this city ahead of personal interest.

That commitment is evident once again as Lt. Marquis transitions from his long-held leadership role within the Criminal Division to take command of the Patrol Division, a move that reflects his continued dedication to ensuring this department remains strong, adaptable, and moving forward.

Lt. Marquis represents the very best of this profession: integrity, humility, experience, and servant leadership. His 30 years of service have left a lasting impact on this department and this community, and we are grateful for his continued leadership.

Congratulations, Mark, and thank you for 30 years of outstanding service to Tiffin. We look forward to all that is still ahead.

Chief Pauly
