“Eva Marie Saint: From BGSU to Hollywood” Next HHM Lecture
(From The Hancock Historical Museum)
The Hancock Historical Museum invites the community to its upcoming Brown Bag Lecture Thursday, May 7th, at 12:00 PM. This month’s presentation, titled “Eva Marie Saint: From BGSU to Hollywood,” promises to be an engaging and insightful look at the fascinating career of this Academy Award-winning actress.
The lecture will be led virtually by Dr. Charles “Chuck” Coletta of Bowling Green State University’s Department of Popular Culture. A Cleveland native, Dr. Coletta earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in literature from John Carroll University and his Ph.D. in American Culture Studies from Bowling Green State University. Since 2000, he has taught courses on television and film studies, contemporary popular literature, and mass media.
The upcoming lecture explores the remarkable life and career of Eva Marie Saint, one of Hollywood’s most enduring talents and a proud Bowling Green State University alumna. Tracing her journey from an active and accomplished student at BGSU to an Academy Award–winning actress, the program highlights Saint’s early theatrical experiences, her rise through radio, television, and Broadway, and her iconic film roles, including her Oscar-winning performance in On the Waterfront and her memorable turn in North by Northwest. The lecture also reflects on her lasting ties to BGSU and her enduring legacy in American film and television.
The Hancock Historical Museum is proud to serve as a community hub for the America 250 celebrations, honoring 250 years of our nation’s history. The 2026 Brown Bag Lecture series lineup is inspired by the celebration themes set forth by the State of Ohio America 250 Commission, connecting local history to the larger national story. The theme for May is Ohio Creates: Arts, Culture, & Literature.
The lecture will last approximately 45 minutes to an hour, with ample time for questions and discussion. Guests are encouraged to bring their own lunches to enjoy during the program. Admission is free for museum members, and by donation for non-members (only for the month of May).
This event is perfect for history buffs, Hollywood enthusiasts, and anyone curious about how a local went from BGSU to the big screen. Bring your lunch, invite your friends, and join us for this incredible event! Doors open at 11:30 am, and seating is limited—arrive early to secure your spot. The Hancock Historical Museum will also host a screening of North by Northwest during their Classic Movie Night later in the year, on Friday, October 23rd.
The Brown Bag Lecture Series takes place on the first Thursday of every month at the Hancock Historical Museum, located at 422 West Sandusky Street in Findlay. Each lecture highlights topics of historical and cultural significance to Hancock County and Ohio.
