Poll: Most Americans Are More Worried Than Excited About AI
A new poll finds most Americans are more concerned than excited about artificial intelligence, with many saying AI is becoming part of everyday life faster than they expected.
Artificial intelligence seems to be everywhere these days.
It’s helping write emails, answer questions, create artwork, recommend what to watch, and even assist doctors and businesses. Whether you realize it or not, chances are you’ve already used AI this week.
But while the technology continues to grow, many Americans aren’t exactly embracing it with open arms.
A new national poll found that people are nearly three times more likely to say they’re concerned about artificial intelligence than excited by it. About two-thirds of those surveyed expressed at least some level of concern about AI’s growing role in everyday life.
One reason?
Many people feel they have little choice in the matter.
Roughly seven out of ten Americans said AI is becoming part of their daily lives whether they want it to or not. From online searches and customer service chats to social media and shopping recommendations, AI is increasingly working behind the scenes.
Another major concern is knowing what’s real.
The same poll found that about 70% of respondents say it’s becoming harder to tell the difference between authentic photos, videos, and information versus content created by artificial intelligence.
Not surprisingly, concern tends to increase with age. Adults over 50 reported the highest levels of uneasiness about AI, while women were generally more concerned than men.
At the same time, many experts point out that AI also offers real benefits. It’s helping improve medical research, making workplaces more efficient, translating languages, and taking over repetitive tasks that free people to focus on more meaningful work.
Like many new technologies, AI brings both opportunities and challenges.
The question now is whether society can keep up with the rapid pace of change while making sure the technology is used responsibly.
