A Post-Christmas Public Service Announcement . . .
If you had a real Christmas tree this year, and are wondering how to dispose of it. Here’s a reminder: You can totally just EAT it. (???) A few years back a baker and cook in the U.K. wrote a book called “How to Eat Your Christmas Tree”. It features dozens of recipes, including using the needles like rosemary or bay leaves (apparently pine needles are a good source of vitamin C). They can also be crushed to flavor gin or vinegar. And the wood can be burned to make pine ash. Which can in turn be used as flavoring, as fertilizer in gardens, and for cleaning the kitchen. Color me crazy, but if something can be used as fertilizer or cleaning, I really don’t want to add it to my scrambled eggs!
