🎃 A Spooky Throwback: The Origins of Halloween

Halloween has long been a time for both kids and adults to step into character — with costumes, wigs, and clever disguises adding to the fun.

But the holiday’s roots go much deeper than candy and costumes.

According to the Library of Congress, Halloween originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, a harvest celebration where people lit bonfires and wore costumes to ward off spirits.

In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III established November 1 as All Saints Day, merging Samhain’s traditions into Christian observance. The night before became known as All Hallows Eve — and eventually, Halloween.
