Another military base is returning to its original name.
Fort Benning Name Restored
Georgia’s Fort Moore is returning to its original name, Fort Benning, but won’t honor a Confederate general who opposed freeing slaves this time.
This time it will honor World War I’s Cpl. Fred G. Benning, who was honored with the Distinguished Service Cross for his heroism while serving in the Army in France in 1918.
North Carolina’s Fort Liberty has also returned to its original name, Fort Bragg.
Defense Secretary Hegseth said, “There are a lot of other service members that have connections [to these names], and we’re going to do our best to restore it.”
