Americans are slowly getting over “guilt tipping”, no longer feeling as pressured to tip every time a cashier’s tablet is turned their way.
Americans spent $283 on pressure-driven tips this year, down from $453 in 2024.
The average customer now only guilt tips 4 times a month compared to 6 times per month last year.
The rising cost of living is the biggest reason people have slowed on pressure-driven tipping. 41% said they’ve got to keep their cash.
78% of Americans believe that businesses should pay their employees more, rather than have them reply on tips.
