Flu season isn’t over yet!

Flu Case Rise Again in the United States

Flu levels are rising across the United States, with emergency department visits increasing among children older than 5.

According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a new influenza A variant has spread widely this season, leading to more hospitalizations and emergency room visits than in a typical flu season.

The strain is particularly affecting young children.

Influenza B cases are starting to rise, which is normal for this time of year, suggesting they will increase in the coming weeks.

A flu shot can help prevent serious outcomes of the flu, such as hospitalization or death. Although there is a mismatch between the shot and the new variant, the vaccine still provides significant protection.

Common-sense precautions such as frequent handwashing, disinfecting surfaces, improving ventilation, staying hydrated, and staying home when sick are recommended to prevent the spread of the flu.
