Researchers at Michigan State University’s Pollinator Performance Center are training dogs to detect threats to honey bee colonies, particularly a bacterial disease known as American foulbrood that affects honey bee larvae. Maple, a 9-year-old English springer spaniel, previously served as a human remains detection dog for the St. Joseph County, Michigan, sheriff’s office before retiring due to an injury.
