Why are so many products recalled these days?
Product Recalls on The Rise
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says US product recalls have reached an all-time high in 2025.

Product recalls could be on the rise now because tracking foreign product quality is easier now than during the pandemic. Spikes in purchases to beat tariffs are also another reason for increased recalls.
The CPSC says most of the recalls come from products that catch or cause fire, burning and heat-related explosion. Many also cause falls, crashes, poisoning, and choking.
While a Market Point Recall survey found that 85% of Americans get angry over recalled products, business analysts with Harvard and Ohio State explained that they “do not necessarily mean products produced today are worse than they were a few years ago. More recalls could be an indication that companies are identifying issues earlier and proactively recalling products before consumers are harmed.”
