Why is the doomsday clock counting us down to destruction?

The Doomsday Clock Clicks Closer To Midnight

The Doomsday Clock was set at 85 seconds to midnight, the closest it has ever been to catastrophe, due to a worldwide “failure of leadership.”

During the recent reveal, representatives of the Science and Security Board said,  “Catastrophic risks are on the rise, cooperation is on the decline, and we are running out of time.”

The decision to move the clock four seconds closer to midnight was based on the lack of collaboration and action on critical existential risks, including nuclear conflict, climate change, and emerging life sciences risks.

The current global failure of leadership, including actions of the U.S. administration, contributed to the decision to change the Doomsday Clock.

To prevent the clock from moving closer to midnight, individuals are encouraged to educate themselves on global risks, engage in discussions with their communities and elected leaders, and support organizations working to address these threats.
