Study Says AI Is A Bigger Threat To Women In The Workplace
Employees in women-dominated occupations are vulnerable to the impact of artificial intelligence on the American workforce.
According to a report from the Brookings Institution, more than 6 million workers at risk of losing their jobs due to AI would likely struggle to cope, with most of them in clerical and administrative roles historically dominated by women.
Of the 6 million workers most vulnerable to AI-related job loss, 86% are women, reflecting their job functions rather than their competency as workers.
Despite concerns about AI displacing workers, roughly 70% of workers in roles exposed to AI could pivot into new positions with comparable earnings, particularly in fields like marketing, finance, and science.
Experts believe that while AI will have a profound impact on the workplace in the future, its current impact on the U.S. labor market is relatively minor, with little evidence of firms replacing significant numbers of workers with AI.
