Steve’s Heartburn for the Day: The Pace Car Problem

You ever get stuck behind that one driver?

Not speeding.
Not slowing down.
Just sitting there… doing exactly the speed limit like they’re leading a parade nobody asked for.

Today’s Heartburn comes from Nick, who summed it up perfectly:

“If you ain’t keeping it up… you’re plugging it up.”

There’s always one car turning a perfectly normal drive into a rolling traffic seminar. Meanwhile twelve people behind them are checking mirrors, checking lanes, checking patience levels — and wondering if they accidentally joined a funeral procession without being notified.

And here’s the thing.

Most drivers aren’t asking for reckless.
They’re asking for rhythm.

Traffic works best when everyone moves together. When one car becomes the pace car, everything stacks up behind it like grocery carts with one bad wheel.

It’s called the speed limit

not the speed everyone else has to orbit around.
