Centerpiece Of “Rumours” Album Cover Sold For $128,000

One of the truly iconic pieces of classic rock memorabilia hit the auction block recently. Somebody purchased Mick Fleetwood’s wooden balls, from the cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumours” album (if you’ve ever seen the album, you can’t miss them). They sold for $128,000. I’ve always wondered if there was a story behind them, and there IS! The original pair were “lavatory chains” he stole. In a 2009 interview he said, “I came out—and I must admit I had a couple of glasses of English ale—and came out of the toilet with these, I ripped them off. The original pair were later lost at a gig, so he had a replacement pair made by a carpenter, and they eventually found their way on the cover of the Rumours album.
