Do Celebrity Deaths Really Happen In 3’s?

So with the death of Hulk Hogan, we’re reminded of the saying, “Celebrity Deaths Come In 3’s”. But is it true? Technically yes, but not as frequently as you might think. A New York Times review in 2014 found that since 1990, only seven trios died within five-day of each other. The only TRULY simultaneous triple celebrity deaths was the 1959 plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and “The Big Bopper”, unofficially dubbed as “The Day The Music Died.” Here are a few examples of “celebrity deaths coming in threes” . . . of course most recently,

  • Malcolm Jamal-Warner, Ozzy Osbourne & Hulk Hogan (you could throw in Connie Francis to make it FOUR if you’d like)
  • Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett & Ed McMahon (Within 2 days in June 2009)
  • David Bowie, Glenn Frey & Alan Rickman (Within 1 week in January 2016)
