Mother’s Day Spending: $34.1 Billion vs. Dinner, Hugs, and Naps

Mother’s Day is SUNDAY, and if you’re planning on celebrating with a mother in your life, then there are THREE things you can do: 1) Buy a gift, 2) Plan some time with her, or 3) Give her the day off. Lots of people go the GIFT route, even if it’s something like flowers, a card, or a meal out. The National Retail Federation says spending on Mother’s Day is expected to reach $34.1 BILLION this year. So, what does that mean for a random person? On average, we’re planning to spend $259 on Mother’s Day gifts and celebrations. But if your budget is a little tighter these days no worries. In a recent survey, mothers said they’d trade gifts, for FREE TIME (that’s both bonus family time and personal time). That can includes . . .

  • Giving mom the day off to enjoy a nap . . .
  • Taking care of the meals for the day . . .
  • Letting mom enjoy sipping on some lemonade with a book or her favorite streaming content . . .
  • Or just some personal time to pamper herself and put her feet up.
